Accessibility Statement
How we build for accessibility, the standard we work toward, and how to tell us when something is not working.
Last updated: August 23, 2026
Our commitment
Seesaw Communities supports adults with developmental disabilities. Our public website should reflect that mission by making information and actions usable by as many people as possible. We consider accessibility from design through release, and we treat reported barriers as issues to investigate and repair.
The standard we design toward
Our target is Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. This target informs keyboard access, visible focus, text contrast, meaningful structure, alternatives for images, touch-target size, reduced-motion support, and content behavior at increased zoom.
We have not completed a formal independent conformance audit and do not claim that every page is fully conformant in every browser and assistive-technology combination.
How we assess the site
Our current self-evaluation process includes:
- Automated checks using axe-core, HTML_CodeSniffer, and Lighthouse.
- Targeted browser regression checks based on findings from manual assessments.
- Keyboard navigation, visible-focus, skip-link, and dialog-focus checks.
- Desktop, mobile, and tablet viewport checks, including standalone touch targets.
- Reduced-motion behavior and checks for content loss or horizontal overflow.
- Structured manual review using Accessibility Insights for Web when a major release or page structure changes.
- Review of public content and form feedback as pages change.
Automated results are useful but do not prove complete accessibility. We continue manual review and will update this statement when the assessment scope materially changes or an independent audit is completed.
Recent self-evaluation history
August 22, 2026 — internal release review
We ran our project-owned automated browser and Lighthouse checks and completed owner-assisted keyboard, VoiceOver, increased-contrast, larger-text, zoom, and reduced-motion review. This was an internal self-evaluation, not an independent audit.
August 23, 2026 — Accessibility Insights homepage assessment
We completed a structured Accessibility Insights for Web Assessment of the homepage. The pre-remediation report recorded 93% of requirements passed, 0% incomplete, and 7% failed. After correcting one human-marking error, six requirements with 14 valid issue instances remained. They concerned repeated newsletter content and inconsistent names, one image description, text-spacing clipping, form-control boundaries, and primary-button focus contrast.
We corrected and deployed those issues, then rechecked the affected requirements against the production homepage. The updated Assessment export recorded 100% passed, 0% incomplete, and 0% failed. This was an internal, tool-assisted homepage self-evaluation—not an Accessibility Insights certification, an independent audit, or a claim that every site page and assistive-technology combination is fully conformant.
Scope and possible limitations
This statement covers the public Seesaw Communities website at seesawcommunities.org. Some actions may open content managed by third parties, such as newsletter confirmation, event registration, social media, or a future online donation provider. We cannot control every part of those services, but we want to help you find an alternative if one creates a barrier.
Newly uploaded documents, event flyers, and archived media may occasionally need additional remediation. If a format is difficult to use, ask us for the information in another format.
Tell us when something is not working
If you encounter a barrier, tell us what happened, which page you were using, and the browser or assistive technology involved if you know it. We will review the issue and respond within five business days.
